Yes. The built-in SQLite sample stays on your device and needs no server, account or network connection.

On a fresh Mac installation, open Connections and choose Open Sample Database. Select Datark Sample SQLite and connect, then open Query and run SELECT * FROM projects; to see the three example projects. You can also browse the projects and query_runs tables and the active_projects view.

On a fresh iPhone or iPad installation, Studio Sample appears in Connections automatically. Open it, choose Connect, then open Query and run SELECT * FROM users; to see the three example users. The sample also includes posts, comments and tags to explore.

Check that the host and port are reachable from your device. A server on a private network may require a VPN or an SSH tunnel. To use a tunnel, add the SSH server to your database connection settings.

With TLS on, Datark verifies the server certificate and host name by default. If your server uses a certificate for a different name or a private certificate authority, choose the TLS verification mode that matches your setup in the connection settings.

Datark refuses a host whose key no longer matches the one saved in Known Hosts, because that can mean the connection is being intercepted. Confirm the new fingerprint with the server's administrator first. If the change is expected, replace the saved key (Mac) or remove the host in Settings, Known Hosts, and reconnect (iPhone and iPad).

On PostgreSQL, outside a transaction, Datark also asks the server to cancel the running statement. A transaction-pooling proxy such as PgBouncer can prevent that cancellation from reaching the statement. During a transaction, or on other engines, Stop ends the wait in Datark while the server may still finish the statement. Check the database before running a write again.

On read-only PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB connections, Datark refuses any statement that names settings or functions able to switch the read-only guard off, such as set_config, transaction_read_only, dblink, lo_import or lo_export, even in a harmless read like SHOW transaction_read_only. Run that statement on a connection that is not marked read-only.

iOS and iPadOS close SSH sessions and port forwards when Datark goes to the background. The transcript is kept, so you can scroll back through it and reconnect. If port forwards are using a session, typing exit leaves the session up and the terminal offers Retry Shell.

The Mac app is sandboxed and gets access only to the file you pick, so journal or WAL files next to it may be blocked. Read-only connections open the file read-only, which avoids creating those files. If a file still fails to open, email us with the error text.

Models download from Hugging Face, so the device needs internet access and enough free storage for the model. On iPhone and iPad you can remove a downloaded model with Delete Download in Settings.
